Jazz Improv 101 with Jared Tinkham

Explore the magic of jazz improvisation with an award-winning pro guitarist and music educator (Director of Guitar Program, Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts).

During this monthly music workshop, attendees will start learning jazz improvisation, including the basics of form, various levels of jazz standards, and the fundamental “how-tos” of improvisation. Applicable to all instruments and skill levels.

Ages & Skill Levels

  • This workshop is aimed at aspiring artists ages 11 and up
  • Beginner, intermediate, and advanced skill levels are welcome

Schedule & Price

  • This monthly workshop is currently conducted virtually
  • Normally scheduled for the second Sunday of each month from 5:00pm–6:00pm
  • The price is $10 per person
  • Each workshop is limited to 5 people
  • The length of the workshop may vary due to the number of attendees

JARED TINKHAM an award-winning pro guitarist and music educator (Director of Guitar Program, Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts). Pro music credentials include:

  • Professional musician since 2008
  • Voted “Best Jazz Guitarist” by Jazz Buffalo, 2015
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Music Education from SUNY Buffalo State College
  • Director of Guitar Program at Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts
  • Studied jazz guitar under Bob Sneider at Eastman School of Music
  • Studied classical guitar under Dr. Evan Drummond

Primary musical influences include John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, Bob Sneider, Adam Rogers, Ben Monder, Grant Green, George Benson, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Allan Holdsworth.
