Host a master class with a Brazilian choro guitarist, composer, recording artist, & music educator.

All of our master classes run approximately 1 hour and feature an infotainment-style lecture (sometimes including audience participation), with opportunities for discussion and Q&A after. Each artist will coordinate with you to make sure that their content will resonate and connect with YOUR audience based on their interests, ages, and skill levels.

  • Our artists are ready to come to you where you plan to host the master class (within the Buffalo area)
  • Virtual master classes are sometimes possible if necessary (to be discussed with the artist)
  • Once a date is selected, the artist will coordinate a start time with you
  • We will also make sure that all of the necessary bases, like like audio/visual equipment, are covered (some of those bases may require additional fees, which will be discussed prior to confirming the booking)

PLAY LIKE BADEN POWELL: Adapting Brazilian Right-Hand Techniques to Any Genre. Do you know who Baden Powell the Brazilian guitarist was? If so, you’re ready to appreciate this workshop. (If not, go right now and listen to and watch as much Baden Powell as possible!) He is known for his astonishing right-hand rhythm techniques—and fun fact: he was left-handed. As amazing as these techniques are to behold, they are also incredibly frustrating to learn. In this workshop, we’ll practice a few of these techniques and, using some modern ideas of music theory, learn how to apply them to the rhythms of whatever music the student pursues.

About the Artist

STEPHEN GUERRA performs and teaches choro around the US and Brazil and has played with the likes of Rogério Souza, Ronaldo do Bandolim, Sungmin Shin, Tiago Souza, Eduardo Belo, Ami Molinelli, and Edinho Gerber. Pro music credentials include:

  • PhD in Music, Yale University
  • Teaches music theory and the choro ensemble at the University at Buffalo
  • Has released three full-length albums and sheet music
